Allow more diversity
Radio and TV stations should provide a variety of programs for their listeners and viewers, says an article in Workers' Daily. The following is an excerpt:
Every evening when we switch on TV, CCTV Channel 8 will broadcast Korean-made TV dramas. For many years, they have earned very high audience ratings. But recently, the ratings plummeted and this can only be attributed to an overdose of these shows.
Years ago, at the radio station where I worked, an art editor who loves Chu Opera, a local Chinese opera, allotted 80 percent of the radio program on arts to this opera. Later, a college graduate who replaced this editor filled the same program with pop music.
Thanks to the fact that our radio station is quite small, its programs have only a small impact on the audience. But CCTV is different. It covers a large population with any single TV drama being watched by millions of people. Therefore, when it selects TV programs, it must have a feel for the interest of the masses and cater to different needs.
In fact, every person has a different understanding of life and art works owing to different educational backgrounds, upbringing and experiences. And therein lies the need for diverse artistic works.
