Law minister resigns

Malaysia's government, under fierce pressure from the opposition, saw its first ministerial resignation yesterday as the law minister quit over the arrest of three people under its Internal Security Act.

The pro-government New Straits Times said that Zaid Ibrahim had submitted his resignation over the arrest on Friday of an opposition MP, a journalist and a well-known blogger using the act, which allows for detention without trial.
