Pure delights

VEG-ON (家乡素食) is a newly opened vegetarian restaurant inside SOLANA lifestyle shopping park. The restaurant tries to stick to the promise implied in the words "organic" and "nature" in its logo by using mostly organic ingredients from Xiaotangshang in the suburbs of Beijing. It also claims not to use artificial flavorings or MSG. The food contains no milk, egg, onion, or garlic.

According to the owner, a Chinese interior designer, the number of imitation meat dishes are also restricted to 10 percent of the selections.

This gracefully decorated and neatly arranged eatery offers its own version of vegetarian dishes from all over the world. There is Vietnamese style curry chicken with baguette slices (越式咖喱鸡), rice noodles and ground pork with lemon grass (香茅肉檬), Chinese style dry-fried long beans and preserved vegetable with olives (橄菜四季豆). Vegetable with jasmine petal (山花万年青) makes a good choice for a green vegetable. Bitter melon with honey and mint sauce (蜜汁薄荷清凉瓜) is an interesting appetizer.
