Dine in home comfort
Beijing's courtyard houses are a by-word for comfort in this capital city. Liang Yu Xuan (两雨轩), a former courtyard house now converted into a restaurant, is no exception.
The place used to be the Beijing residence of Zhang Xueliang, a well-known Northeast Chinese marshal in the times of the Kuomintang in the early 20th century. There is a small tea room at the entrance where one can try Chinese teas. The rooms around the first courtyard have been converted into private rooms, with luxurious, traditional Chinese decoration. The second courtyard is bigger and an entire hall made into a modern looking bar.
The food is Tan Family style, known for its elaborately prepared shark fin, abalone and bird's nest with very tasty sauces. There are also several fried dishes, with the selections borrowing from all of China's famous cuisines.
