Computer games ban

China Daily | Updated: 2008-09-13 08:17

Banning college freshmen from using their own computers might not prevent them from indulging in computer games, says an article in Procuratorial Daily. The following is an excerpt:

As the new semester started, some college freshmen in the city of Nanjing found that they were prohibited from bringing their own computers to their dormotries. And colleges in other cities like Shanghai and Wuhan also have imposed the same ban. College authorities explained that the ban was to prevent freshmen from indulging in computer games and the Internet.

We do not question the good intentions of the authorities in enforcing this ban, but we wonder whether it can achieve the results they seek.
