Merkel congratulates Beijing Games success

German Chancellor Angela Merkel on Monday extended congratulations on the success of the Beijing Olympic Games, saying she was looking forward to her trip to Beijing next month.

Merkel made the remarks during her meeting with visiting Vice-Premier Zhang Dejiang, who is currently on a four-day visit to Germany.

Zhang thanked Merkel for Germany's support of the Beijing Olympic Games, as well as the country's help in the wake of the deadly May 12 quake in Sichuan province.
