Host team China put on a spectacular show yesterday at the Beijing Paralympics by winning five more gold medals, sending it to the top of the medal tally ahead of the United States and Britain.
Among the five gold-winning performances, two javelin throwers were the stars of the day as they both won the gold medals with new world records, on the first day of athletics competition at the Bird's Nest.
China's Yao Juan claimed the first athletics gold medal for the host country at the Beijing Paralympic Games by winning the women's javelin in the F42-46 class with a throw of 40.51m in the morning, before her compatriot Guo Wei added the second athletics gold for the hosts, winning the men's javelin F35/36 class with 56.07m.
