A visionary approach

The increasingly high rate of students suffering from myopia has prompted the Ministry of Education to release a document on preventing such a problem from becoming worse. Given the fact more than 80 percent of high school students are suffering from nearsightedness, such an effort is indeed necessary.
In the 1970s, the percentage of senior high school students suffering from nearsightedness was only 15 percent. It jumped to 72 percent in 2002 and today it stands at 85 percent. For primary school students the rate is 28 percent and 60 percent for middle school students.
The sharp rise in the incidence of myopia among students and the increasingly heavy burden of schoolwork indicates a correlation between the two.
