Nobody's banging the gong for new Singaporean 'star'

"Who does Gong Li think she is?" a friend asked me the other day, while we nibbled on skewered chicken hearts and washed them down with Tsingtao beer on Donghuamen Snack Street.

"That's a good question," I said, not having an answer.

My patriotic friend is in the movie business and was reeling from news that Gong had recently traded in her China passport to become a Singapore national - though she failed to turn up for the ceremony.
