Qantas to improve maintenance

China Daily | Updated: 2008-09-02 07:57

Qantas Airways Ltd, Australia's largest airline, was ordered by the government to improve the maintenance of its planes following several safety lapses.

The airline must "produce a plan to address deficiencies in meeting some of its own maintenance performance targets," Australia's Civil Aviation Safety Authority, or CASA, said yesterday in a statement.

On July 25, a Qantas aircraft made an emergency landing in Manila after an oxygen tank exploded, puncturing the plane's fuselage at 29,000 feet (8,800 meters).
