NEW YORK: The New York Yankees rallied for a 3-2 win over the Boston Red Sox on Thursday to avoid a three-game sweep and keep their flickering playoff hopes alive.
Looking to make the playoffs for a 15th consecutive season, the Yankees trailed 2-0 before Jason Giambi stepped up to tie the score with a two-run homer in the seventh inning and win the game with a run-scoring single in the ninth.
With only 13 regular season games left at Yankee Stadium, New York will have to conjure up more magic to make the playoffs through an American League wildcard berth.
