Mansion's grand opening

After years of renovation, Prince Gong's Mansion, the intact luxury residence of a famous ancient Chinese official, has opened to the public for the first time.

Located in historic Xicheng district, the mansion was originally the home of He Shen, one of the most important court officials serving Emperor Qianlong of the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911). The home's luxurious halls and gardens resemble the style and features of the Forbidden City. From the south to the north, the halls are divided into five rows with three groups of courtyards situated from east to west.

He's main residence, Jiale Hall, was built from precious wood used exclusively for royal residences. Be sure to notice the many windows designed in unusual shapes, all with a view of his treasure storage building.
