Red hand in glove

Since 2005, jazz outfit Red Hand has been doing all it can to shake up the Beijing scene. Onstage, the quintet belts out original anthems, in addition to a handful of classic covers.

Four members of the group also play together as The Nathaniel Gao Quartet.

Both outfits are more than capable of steering their instruments around a variety of musical scales and seem to give every member due time in the driver's seat. In other words, it's not the case that any single member ever steals the show; they all take turns doing it.
