Courts and journalists

China Daily | Updated: 2008-08-30 07:54

Fair courts have no reason to fear journalists, says an article in Beijing News. The following is an excerpt:

Recently, Zhang Liyong, Supreme Court president in Henan province, told the media "the court should not fear journalists; instead, it should welcome their supervision as judges are basically doing the same job as journalists - ensuring fairness for the masses".

It is true judges and journalists are doing jobs of a similar nature. The courts once limited the activities of the media, but different countries see increasing the presence of the media in court rooms.
