Changzhou sets an example for developing economy
The economic boom of Changzhou city in Jiangsu province was recently highlighted in an article by economist Tong Dalin in People's Daily.
The gross value of its industrial and agricultural production reached nearly 4 billion yuan last year and yielded an income of 532 million yuan, thanks to a number of valuable means such as quality-centered production and reform-oriented governance.
Tong also suggested the city lay stress on the 1-billion internal market while developing world market, and recognize the potential market of the 800-million prospering rural population while weighing the wealthy urban one, for further development.
Warning against market violations
The Central Commission for Discipline Inspection of the Communist Party of China has called for more rigid control of commodities in great demand, and warned that cadres who profiteer at the expense of consumer interests will be strictly punished.
It especially mentioned the case of Beijing Chongwenmen food market, in which scarce goods meant for local consumption were found to be sold to other provinces' buyers at higher prices through backdoor dealings, and condemned it as "absolutely intolerable under our social system".
The market's leaderships have been found with a 756 percent boost of their bonus.
Quiz-game hot
A TV quiz show has been going popular and raised an imitation fever in primary and middle schools across the country.
The questions cover Chinese literature, Chinese and world history and geography, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology and foreign languages from both textbooks and out-of-class readings.
Noted linguist Zhang Shoukang said the show and similar contests would help kids develop in an all-round way.
