![]() Hu hails friendly ties with Tajikistan

Updated: 2008-08-28 07:29 DUSHANBE: It is necessary for China to strengthen legislative cooperation with Tajikistan, visiting Chinese President Hu Jintao said here yesterday. "We support the two legislatures to exchange experience and learn from each other in such fields as establishing economic laws, supervision over the executive branch and legislation for boosting economic progress and external relations," Hu said during a meeting with senior Tajik lawmakers. President Hu, who arrived on Tuesday for his first state visit to the Central Asian country, hailed the traditional friendship between the two peoples and the development of relations since the two countries established diplomatic ties 16 years ago. "Developing good-neighborly cooperation conforms with the common interests of the two states and peoples, and is in the interests of regional peace, stability and prosperity," Hu said at the meeting, which was attended by the speakers of both houses of the Tajik Parliament. Upper House Speaker Makhmadsaid Ubaiduloev hailed China's traditional culture and economic progress, saying many Chinese companies and investments had contributed to his country's economic and social development. He spoke highly of Tajik-Chinese cooperation under the framework of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), pledging to further good-neighborly and friendly cooperation with China. President Hu will attend the 8th annual SCO summit in Dushanbe today. The Chinese president will leave for Turkmenistan later in the day to continue his three-nation Asian tour.
