Olympic crime record

Crime figures in Beijing during the Olympic Games fell to their lowest for eight years, thanks to a host of tightened security measures and the presence of 35,000 police officers on daily patrols, the city's public security bureau said yesterday.

The number of serious crimes, such as murder, robbery and rape, also fell over the period of Aug 8-24, it said.
