A salute to women

One hundred and eight years ago, 22 women competed in the golf, tennis and yachting events in the 1900 Paris Olympic Games.
Allowing the few women to join practically defied the initial stipulation of the founder of the modern Olympics, Baron Pierre de Coubertin, who had said the Games was no place for women and what they should strive to achieve was to encourage their sons to go faster, higher and better.
Countless women have done just what Coubertin preached. We have witnessed mothers, sisters and daughters stand firmly behind their sons, brothers and fathers, cheering for their success and offering a comforting shoulder when they failed.
