Canada to search for lost ships

Skulls of members of the Franklin Expedition, discovered and buried by William Skinner and Paddy Gibson in 1945, at King William Island, N.W.T. (now Nunavut), are shown in this photo from the National Archives of Canada Collections. AP

Canada said on Friday it will search for two fabled British explorer ships that disappeared in the Arctic more than 160 years ago, fearing melting ice caused by global warming could entice others to find and plunder the underwater tombs.
