Off track ..... Manus chasing medal for mother's birthday

China Daily | Updated: 2008-08-16 08:01

Thailand's Manus Boonjumnong already knows what he wants to give his mother for her birthday - an Olympic medal, ideally gold.

Light-welterweight Manus started his quest to become the first Thai boxer to win successive Olympic titles by outpointing Japan's Masatsugu Kawachi 8-1 on Thursday to advance to the quarterfinals.

His next fight, against Kazakhstan's Serik Sapiyev, is on Aug 17 but the 28-year-old already has his eyes on Aug 22.
