"四有" 新人 (siyou xinren)

New Generation with "Four Qualifications"

A shorthand for young people with lofty ideals, moral integrity, good education and a strong sense of discipline. This is a target raised by the late leader Deng Xiaoping in 1985 for all youths of the country. All institutions of education, culture and entertainment were required to inculcate the qualifications among children, teenagers and youths. It is one of the key concepts on young talents widely practiced up till now.
