Famous Historic and Cultural City

A label for cities of high historic or cultural value, either boasting rich heritage, architectures, relics or having played unique roles in the development of history and culture. First given to 24 cities in 1982, this title requires the cities to conserve the relics with consolidated urban planning, enhanced public awareness, restricted construction of new facilities in designated areas and other due efforts. After winning the title, the cities not only stepped up their heritage conservation, but also won an edge in developing tourism.
