Booming economy in the first year-half
China's economy enjoyed a good first half, said Xu Gang, deputy director of the State Statistics Bureau.
Enumerating examples, Xu said summer crops will increase an annual 10 percent to 82 million tons, industrial output in the year's first half yielded a 8.8 percent growth over the same period last year to a worth of 296.9 billion yuan, and both domestic and export markets were brisk and prosperous.
College graduates assigned work
Fifteen thousand graduates from 56 universities in Beijing have been assigned to posts across the country for national construction, especially in remote areas like Tibet, Xinjiang and Inner Mongolia where their training and knowledge is badly wanted.
Many outstanding students are giving up city life and are ready to do their new work, though a few are still reluctant to go to work in distant areas.
Lost students rescued
Three student travelers who lost their way in a cave of the Emei Mountain, a hot spot in Sichuan Province, were rescued 12 days later by local police.
The three, two male and one female, managed to survive on water found in the cave until rescuers came.
