Updated: 2008-08-12 08:12  Coco Banana, a popular nightspot, is the place in Beijing to find professional pole performers, a brawny cupid and a sinewy Egyptian pharaoh. The club's medium-sized dance floor is packed on weekends, and even during the wee hours of some weekday mornings. The mostly Chinese crowd seethes to trance beats beneath constellations of disco balls and elaborate mechanized colored lights. Coco's high-outlay layout is not unique among Beijing's nightlife offerings but is well assembled as a whole. The nightclub is anchored around a rectangular bar, where servers-turned-performers juggle bottles and blow fire as they pour drinks starting from 30 yuan ($4.4). VIP booths are warehoused in the loft and furnished with sofas upholstered with dairy cow pelts. The walls are multifold collages of geometric shapes. Against this backdrop, young, hip and moneyed Chinese punters savor cocktails.
