In 2003, China's 10m air-pistol gold medalist Guo Wenjun almost gave up shooting altogether to become a clothing vendor.

After a ninth-place finish at the City Games of China, Guo was so frustrated that she decided to leave the Xi'an sports school where she was training with the shooting team.

Her coach permitted her a temporary leave, so she returned home.

After a while she took a job as a saleswoman at a sportswear store. She lasted two years selling clothing, eventually realizing that life as a clothing vendor was not as fulfilling for her as life as an athlete.

She returned the sports school in 2005 and was welcomed back to the shooting team. Her coach told her the Olympic team could always use another formidable sharpshooter.

Guo's shooting career has been firing on all cylinders since then. After winning gold in Beijing, it is safe to say Guo has lived up to the her potential.
