Special supplement: Transforming sludge into crystal-clear water

New park in Olympic Village is an inviting enclave of nature that boasts thickets of reeds and crystal-clear water. Yet the main water source of this park is from Beijing's Beixiaohe Wastewater Treatment Plant, whose treated effluent quality can almost meets the national standards for surface water class IV.
Beijing needs large quantities of water to supply watercourses and to irrigate flowerbeds and fields. But it is a city short of water. Other than transferring water from peripheral rivers, the reclaimed water will become the key source for water replenishment.
How the reclaimed water be produced from the original wastewater? Chen Tong, the manager of engineering and design for Water Technologies of Siemens Ltd, China, has helped solve the riddle.
