IOC role for Chinese official

China's Yu Zaiqing was yesterday named vice-president of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) at its 120th session.
IOC President Jacques Rogge announced the result of a ballot, in which Yu won 84 of 94 possible votes.
"It is a great honor," Yu who was the sole candidate for the post left vacant by Sweden's Gunilla Lindberg, said."Under the guidance and support of IOC, I have worked on the preparations for the Beijing Olympic Games for several years. Now they are ready and the Chinese people are ready to deliver a successful Games," he said.
