Putin praises preparations

MOSCOW: Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin has lauded China's preparations for the Beijing Olympics and wished the Games great success.

"I'd like to express gratitude and pay great tribute to the hosts - our Chinese friends. I know China has made great efforts in preparing for the Games," Putin said in an interview with Xinhua.

He thanked President Hu Jintao for inviting him to the opening ceremony, saying he will definitely be there.
