Nationwide Energy-Saving Campaign

A national effort to reduce energy consumption to adapt to the tight supply of energy products, protect the environment and improve public awareness on saving energy. On August 1, 2008, the State Council issued a circular calling for people across the country to participate in the campaign. Administrative departments at all levels were required to reduce uses of cars, air conditioners, elevators, street lights and lamps. Other people were advised to use less plastic bags and disposable goods and choose appliances and equipment of high energy efficiency at home and in the offices. Related departments were also asked to launch public education programs and enhance supervision in these aspects.
