Police expose girlfriend in love-test kidnap hoax

A woman surnamed Wu, resident of Meitan county, Guizhou province, was detained for 10 days and fined 500 yuan ($70), for testing the loyalty of her boyfriend by staging a hoax kidnap.

Wu's boyfriend, surnamed Huang, reported to local police on Tuesday morning a text message he had received from his girlfriend, saying she had been kidnapped by five men who were demanding a 40,000 yuan ($5,800) ransom.
