Excuse of human rights

China Daily | Updated: 2008-08-02 07:39

If the United States is trying to promote human rights, it keeps sending the wrong signal.

In the past week, US President George W. Bush has spent much time meeting individuals and groups who claim to be concerned about China's plights. He met with several Chinese "dissidents" in the White House. The issues were human rights, Taiwan and Tibet. He was even encouraged to visit Tibet and Xinjiang.

Bush told Chinese journalists that he would not link the Games with politics. He is due to attend the opening ceremony of the Beijing 2008 Olympics next week.
