Surprise profit
Motorola Inc, the largest US mobile-phone maker, posted an unexpected second-quarter profit after the company cut jobs and sales beat estimates, sending the shares higher in early trading.
Net income was $4 million, or break-even on a per-share basis, compared with a loss of $28 million, or 1 cent, a year earlier, the company said yesterday in a statement. Revenue fell 7.4 percent to $8.08 billion.
