"双增双节" (shuangzeng shuangjie)

Double Increases and Double Reductions

A shorthand for "increase production and reduce waste, increase income and reduce cost", a campaign calling all enterprises and businesses to improve efficiency, recycle wastes and cut down unnecessary expenditure. Mooted in the Central Economic Work Conference in January 1987, the campaign was soon promoted across the country. Since then, enterprises and businesses upgraded their products according to market demand, improved the production efficiency and reduced wastes in both material and financial terms either through enhanced management or technological innovation.
