Summer heat makes pet dogs and cats snappy

A 6-year-old girl's pet dog savaged her right arm, almost ripping out the tendon, on Sunday at her home as she fed it a fresh bone.

When the girl and her mother arrived at a disease-control center in Shenyang, capital of Liaoning province, for a rabies shot, they were faced with a long queue of pet owners there for the same reason.

"Every day we daily receive 30 to 40 patients who've been bitten by their pet cats or dogs in summer because the heat makes them restless and prone to attack," experts at the center said, recommending pet owners to bear this in mind when feeding their animals.

Guard imprisoned for ATM cash card fraud

A security guard surnamed Sun was sentenced to 18 months imprisonment plus a fine of up to 20,000 yuan ($2,900) last week in Tianjin municipality for cash card fraud.

Noticing that a cash card had been left inside an ATM with all its functions open, Sun withdrew 18,000 yuan and ran. Police, however, caught him the next day.

Sun was prosecuted for cash card fraud according to the country's latest judicial interpretation of this type of crime.
