Updated: 2008-07-23 07:26 Hospital head on trial Yang Zhiyi, the former president of Loudi Central Hospital in Loudi, Hunan province, went on trial on Monday for allegedly taking bribes totaling 4.5 million yuan ($660,000). Yang, 44, is accused of taking bribes relating to the purchase of medical equipment and construction bidding. He was arrested last July and formally charged in May. Police blow up own lab A laboratory at the police bureau of Yongzhou city, Hunan province, exploded on Monday, the Shanghai Morning Post reported yesterday. Chen Zhihua, an official with the local publicity office, said police had earlier confiscated 1.6 kg of homemade explosives from a local farmer and put them in the lab.
