Bullets found in luggage
Security staff on Thursday detained a man surnamed Zhang at Aksu airport in the Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region after he was found to be carrying two small-caliber bullets in his suitcase, the Xinhua News Agency reported yesterday. The man, who was trying to board a plane to Urumqi, the regional capital, is being held by police for questioning.
Women share govt roles
Woman account for nearly half of all government officials in the Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, a report from the Xinjiang branch of the All-China Women's Federation has said. The number of woman officials has been rising over the past five years and reached 330,700 at the end of last year, more than 49 percent of the total, the report said.
