Spring Festival Transportation
The high traffic load of transportation around the Spring Festival, the Chinese New Year and a traditional occasion for family reunion.
Starting about 15 days before the Spring Festival, the transportation peak takes university students and workers back to their hometowns for the New Year and brings them back to schools and work after it. People also begin to take the week-long Spring Festival holiday as a time for sightseeing. The number of passengers, for highway, railway, airlines and ships, during the time exceeds the country's population, reaching 2.05 billion in 2007. The annul peak poses huge challenges for transportation, safety and other aspects.
