(Guizhou Metropolis Daily) Students flock to ibis-protection campaign Three high school students in Ningqiang county, Shaanxi province, have devoted themselves to protecting and monitoring a flock of ibises released into the wild last May. Ibises are a graceful long-legged bird, with dramatically curved bills. They are an endangered species. "We spent all our spare times making observation of the birds in the wild, and found that birds like to come close to people and do not fear their natural enemies, which we do not think it is good for the bird's protection," said Wu Huixuan, one of the three students. Experts said that the phenomenon the students reported had most likely resulted from artificial breeding. (Huashang Daily) (China Daily 07/02/2008 page5) |
