Police station, govt building torched

China Daily | Updated: 2008-06-30 07:19

GUIYANG: About 10,000 people torched a police station and a county government office building in Weng'an, Guizhou Province, on Saturday night, officials said.

Trouble began in the afternoon when people - angered by the officials' alleged attempt to cover up a murder case of a girl student - began gathering at the county government and public security bureau.

"When officials were trying to get to the truth of the matter, some people who did not know what exactly had happened instigated the mob to attack the police station and the office building of the county government," Xinhua said. Order, however, was restored around 2 am on Sunday.
