Boogie nights

It might be over ambitious for a new Chinese indie music label to stage three consecutive nights of concerts, but that's exactly what Thirteenth Month Records is doing.
The company is one of Beijing's newest labels and is gearing up with the stalwarts of contemporary Chinese music to celebrate Chinese folk, rock and regional music this weekend at the Beizhan Theater.
The festival began last night with a folk ballads, and a rare performance by Lao Lang, one of the so-called "campus singers" who rose to prominence in Chinese universities in the late 1980s. Singer-songwriter Wan Xiaoli and more recent folk rock talent Ma Tiao also perform on the opening night. Guitar and harmonica player Wan joined the Thirteenth Month in 2005. His hit album, All Things Are Better Than You Imagine was among the 2006 top 10 Chinese albums.
