New 'residents' cards' to be issued in Guangzhou

Guangzhou municipal government has announced plans to issue more than one million "residents' cards" this year.

With the new identification cards, locals will enjoy preferential treatment in receiving government services, including medical care, education, employment, banking, public transportation, social welfare and pension payments.
