The Olympic torch relay has cast fresh light on Yueyang, a famed city in east China's Hunan province that dates back more than 2,500 years.
The city is home to a structure familiar to generations of school children - called simply the Yueyang Tower, first used as a military headquarters more than 1,700 years ago, which shares its name with the city.
Renowned writer Fan Zhongyan, who lived during Song Dynasty (960-1279), composed an essay about the building at the request of his friend.
