Silver-framed traditional treasure on red

China Daily | Updated: 2008-06-25 07:52

"Women all over the world love to shop and collect beautiful things, and I am no different, " says fashion designer Xu Dong.

Among the many Chinese treasures that Xu delights in collecting are items of Ming and Qing style furniture, old ink stones, Chinese embroidery, silver jewelry and accessories crafted and worn by ethnic minorities, cheongsam - quintessential celebration of oriental femininity - and ink paintings.

Xu's collections render her large apartment in Baiwangshan, Haidian district - a quiet corner of bustling Beijing - a veritable mini-museum.
