John Woo is internationally acclaimed for his films featuring balletic action sequences, skilful use of slow-motion and tragic heroes.
He is an icon among Hong Kong film makers, by virtue of the classics under his belt like A Better Tomorrow (Yingxiong Bense) and The Killer (Diexue Shuangxiong). Woo was one of the most successful Asian filmmakers during his 10 years in Hollywood, having created blockbuster films Face/Off and Mission: Impossible II.
As a child Woo wanted to be a Christian minister. Later influenced by European film, the French New Wave and Jean-Pierre Melville, he discovered his passion for movies.
