Wind power boost
By the end of last year, China had installed wind power equipment able to generate 6 million kW a year, more than the target it sets for 2010, Gao Hu, deputy director of the Energy Research Institute of the National Development and Reform Commission, said at an international forum on renewable energy in Shanghai yesterday. The capacity ranks China fifth in the world after Germany, the United States, Spain and India.
Gao said it is very likely that China will reach its goal of generating 30 million kW of wind power earlier than 2020.
