South Koreans cry foul over beef, turn to greasy pork

China Daily | Updated: 2008-06-23 07:08

In South Korea, US beef is out and greasy pork is in. Just don't mention the calories or cholesterol.

US and South Korean trade envoys said at the weekend they had forged a deal to allow a wide variety of US beef products back into South Korea, which banned imports in 2003 after an outbreak of mad cow disease in the United States.

Procedures to put the new import agreement into effect were to start today, Trade Minister Kim Jong-hoon said, but it was not clear when American beef would reach South Korean markets.
