Heavy rain triggers floods

Torrential rain and thunderstorms battered large swaths of Japan this weekend, triggering floods and landslides that left at least one person dead.

The Japan Meteorological Agency said it expects heavy rain of 3 to 6 cm per hour in northeastern, eastern and central Japan last night and today as a seasonal rain front and low-pressure system made their way across the country.
