Promises are not enough to force restaurants and hotels to abandon their old unfair trading practices, only the enforcement of laws can, says an article in Yangtze Evening Post. The following is an excerpt:
Three types of unfair practices adopted by hotels and restaurants - checking out before noon, extra fees for sterilized dishware, and the prohibition of drinks brought to their premises - have long been criticized.
Recently, 71 restaurants and hotels in Miyun county of suburban Beijing jointly declared that they would solve the above three problems. It was the first-ever commitment made by them.
