Libraries for children

China Daily | Updated: 2008-06-18 07:36

We should create a good environment for children to read books, says an article in Beijing News. The following is an excerpt:

A 7-year-old girl was reportedly denied entry into the National Library recently on the ground that minors may not be able to abide by the library's regulations due to their weak self-control and that most books are not suitable for them to read.

It is important for us to cultivate children's love for books in an age when computers, TVs and movies have an overwhelming presence. The loss of the reading habit may cause children to lose their imagination and become addicted to pictures and animations. The National Library has not set aside a room especially for children, which means it ignores the reading requirements of children. This goes against its function of spreading knowledge.
