Bridging business: Dachser continues to supply solutions in China
The Company first began operations in China back in 1976 - even before the nation's reform and opening up was truly underway - so it is well acquainted with local market conditions.
"We were also present with close cooperation agreements when the country slowly began to open up to the world at the end of the 1980s and became an increasingly globalized economy," said Edoardo Podest, regional managing director of Dachser Far East Ltd in Hong Kong.
It has also sharpened its profile with a regional head office in Hong Kong administering its four core regions of Hong Kong, north and south China, and Taiwan with a total of 15 offices.
Two wholly foreign-owned enterprises on the mainland in Shenzhen and Shanghai and a joint venture in Taiwan have been established.
In addition to traditional shipping services provided by air and sea, the company also offers "contract logistics" that integrates storage, stock movements, inventory management, pickup and packing to provide flexibility to tailor-made solutions.
"It is one of our particular strengths that we combine logistics with exacting quality controls and value-added services," said Podest. "This is something especially important for consumer electronics, renewable energies and the automotive sector and becoming ever-more important to industry and retailing."
Headquartered in Germany, the company was founded in 1930 by Thomas Dachser.
To help customers increase their profitability, Dachser redesigns their logistics processes, resulting in the improvement in costs and performance. With sales of 3.5 billion euros (37.7 billion yuan) in fiscal 2007, the company employs more than 17,000 people around the world and has global network of 297 branches.
Dachser Far East Ltd is a 100 percent owned subsidiary of the Dachser Group. It employs about 600 people in 15 locations in China.
